New River upgrade taking too much landResidents currently under threat of losing our homes, lands and farms along the New River in Hinton, for a parkway that was to only be an "upgrade," learned that the state Department of Highways is applying environmental impact studies that were not done for the proposed New River Parkway. Even the biologists who did those black fly studies years ago informed the department of that fact. The other biologist put in writing that those same black fly studies were done "before the issue of the parkway was raised." When a resident called the application of these studies to the department's attention, it insisted the impact studies were for the parkway, but later stated it made a mistake. And on it continues with its quest to take our land to give to the National Park Service, regardless of the effect such a road so adjacent to the New River would have on the natural resources and the fish food chain of that most pristine river.
