MADNESS: As we understand it to be true, the abandoned cabin below along the proposed route of the New River Parkway was built new by an out of state developer and was never occupied. The National Park Service (NPS) then bought this cabin along with a similar new one right next to it, for about $70,000 a piece. Then, the same developer built FOUR more cabins right next door to these! So much for protecting the view shed and environment! Isn't this a waste of tax payer dollars? Oh, and in case you didn't know, this area of the valley is prone to high-water from the river! FUTURE? Are we in for still more government waste at the expense of the local residents? STOP THE CURRENT PARKWAY PLAN, NOW! WE NEED A RESPONSIBLE PARKWAY PLAN AND RESPONSIBLE GOVERNMENT!
More Waste! In December 2001 we found at that the NPS is tearing down some of the houses they bought in the valley, in some cases after buying them, putting an new roof on them, and then tearing out all the asbestos. Now the houses are demolished and replaced with neatly mowed pieces of land, after countless thousands of tax dollars were spent on them, all the while there are many homeless, poor people who could use a perfectly good home. Your tax dollars at work - NOT! |
